out of all the destinations my family and i went to on cruise Carnival Miracle (summer 2012), the city of Nassau is the most urbanized which would make sense since it is the capital of the Bahamas and located on the island of New Providence. after visiting the other two port stops, Nassau’s city development combined with exotic beaches created an ethereal landscape. luckily, my dad and i were able to view this stretch in the best way - riding segways up and down boardwalks and exploring open field lots, as seen in image four! the vehicle was really hard to maneuver at first and i struggled with staying in vertical positions without falling dramatically, which meant that i never let go of the machine no matter which way it threw me. there were also some weird worm bugs from the open lots that latched onto my clothes and skin whenever i got close to the ground, which was basically every time -.- they were particularly interesting simply because they resembled inchworms with mouths; one end would literally part in half and then close entirely in simultaneous patterns. my dad freaked out because he “saw the parasites on discovery channel and knew they could burrow into my skin and live off of me.” i wasn’t going to take any chances so we picked off all of them before any full on commitment was made. as for the rest of the city, Nassau had a lot of european influenced structures such as french balconies and random assortments of classic lamp posts. with a history involving fires caused by spaniards, occupances by both spaniards and french and then by english and americans, Nassau was bound to have a variety of different cultures mixed into the landscape. before my dad and i went on our little segway excursion, we visited the Pirates Museum (http://www.pirates-of-nassau.com/museum.htm) we were joined by a very friendly tour guide who acted as captain blackbeard and he let us go into the Museum for free, so nice! unfortunately, i do not have any pictures of our explorations in that space. despite all of these secretive european influenced structures, there were also many traces of american styles in the city as well. our first encounter to american style included the Government building in Parliament Square, seen in image one. this building is of neoclassical style and was created under the impact of loyalists from southern United States. despite american traits, the building’s front entrance still had a very lovely display of various european representatives, including queen elizabeth ii and christopher columbus. one other famous building in Nassau is the extravagantly classy Crystal Palace Casino (http://crystalpalacevacations.com/). my family and i did not visit this building, although i am positive they would have loved it. after seeing some pictures on the casino’s website and online, i would love to go too! just to catch the beautiful views. last of all is everyone’s favorite unique chain restaurant, Señor Frog’s! shown in image seven (http://www.senorfrogs.com/) apparently this restaurant is also in the United States, but i have only seen it on port stops on cruises. however, i have only eaten there once and it was a free meal along with the chosen excursion. their food is pretty decent from what i remember, although the restaurant is more geared towards bar hoppers looking for a fun time. unfortunately, i was always too young to join in the adult related excitement. i hope to visit Nassau again someday, maybe to gamble away at the Crystal Palace Casino or grab a meal and drink at Señor Frog’s, just to experience something i heard everyone talk about once they got back onto the boat. maybe that’s why cruise trips are so special, they create idealized vacations that really take people out of their regular everyday environment and take them for a spin on freedom. for a week, we can explore these chances and have a time of our lives. cruises are much more exceptional than people make them out to be. here’s to endless days of sunshine, sand, food, exhilaration in the near future :D

festival of places 2013: travels included Santiago, Chile;...

Prague, Czech Republic; Berlin, Germany; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Lisbon, Portugal; Ponce, Puerto Rico; Barcelona, Spain; Oyster Bay, New York (USA) and Buffalo, New York (USA). i previously mentioned this SUNY ESF event two months ago in an update post (http://fortheloveofsaudfe.tumblr.com/post/43201801587/lost-iphone-and-new-travels). this is the first and only year i have pictures of the festival, although i highly regret it because the event comes out to stunning results each time. instead of taking photos with a regular camera and changing the blog context of only iphone photos, i decided to take photos of the event’s decorations long afterwards. fortunately, many of the students kept their artwork created for the event. above are some images of how the students went about representing their study abroad location. i’m not sure where the two pictures of statues are from in the fifth image but i am guessing Lisbon, Portugal (?). the graffitied post is from the Berlin, Germany group; the BCN sign (image four) and “l’ovella negra Barcelona’ sign (image eight) are from, of course, Barcelona, Spain; and the papier-mâché cow is from Prague, Czech Republic - although this cow was made many years ago by another Prague group from a previous festival of places event. the way these artistic structures are placed now represent memories and sense of loss in its new environment, an environment that was not originally meant for these items. no one is looking at these pieces anymore but they still trigger pieces of memories from that one event two months ago. they are still special to those who traveled this past fall and those who built the sculptures. to me, they are special simply because my future in two years are founded off of these next travels and events. but the memories and photographs are what helps keep these images alive and special. festival of places is a wonderful six hour gallery exhibiting those emotions and making sure detail is vibrant in mind. this occurence is more or less why i keep a blog of all travels - it helps keep my remembrances existent and continuous forever. i love that people read these pages and yearn to make their own/gain some new influences and impacts from travels. i also read other travel blogs to determine my next goals of where i would like to go and what i would do, just so that the memories of travel will always build but nothing will disappear. thanks again for reading, everyone - i truly x10 appreciate what travels make of memories and so glad that discussion of spaces can somewhat encourage all of these factors.

yesterday, my construction materials class had a field trip to...

Franklin Square is a residential and commercial community that used to be a former industrial neighborhood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Square,_Syracuse), which is interesting because these types of communities are usually extremely privatized, but both the trees and renovated industrial buildings create a magnet for old styled landscape lovers; thus counteracting the idea of communities. our time during the trip was spent mostly in the centrally placed plaza area which clears a space for interesting perspectives of these industrial buildings and expanse trees. although the plaza presents beautiful atmosphere with its ornamental pear trees and bradford pear trees, both plant structures have unfortunate distinctive smells of semen and rotting fish. however, the gorgeous views the trees provided made up for such scents. another fascinating aspect of these trees is the accumulation of fallen petals stretched across road edges and inconspicuous corners. the petal colors create a hidden line that constantly defines the entire space as well as initiate acknowledgement of familiarity and recognition. these plants are most noticeable during springtime and will eventually represent types of homeland for Franklin Square residents. also, another factor is how the color of the pear trees reflect against the skies of Syracuse. despite the change in weather, the city usually throws in a mix of stormy skies and clear blue skies within a few hours. this could also just be my camera, but the contrast between bright pink against blue (image one) to white against light grayish white could change and reflect any emotion evoked within the landscape but still provides that excellent view. lastly, our professor talked about the use of different materials identifying change and pattern in the space as well as how the pergola defines light and relaxation. it would be intriguing to see the pergola structure within a wintry landscape, especially since the trees would be barren but can still be viewed through the pergola gaps. lastly, the seventh picture shows some black lichen on a rock wall structure along Onondaga Creek near the Square. we did not get to talk about this lichen but the fungi was quite solid and smooth. none of it fell off after touching the weird bumpy texture which made me wonder how long the lichen had been there and how much longer it would last on the rock. amongst all of these intricate details within Franklin Square, it is safe to say that the residents are extremely lucky to live in such an incredible space! i hope to live someplace like the Square someday :)

my sister kat is a music business major at New York University...

my sister kat is a music business major at New York University and has been attending many concerts in the city this past year. i have accompanied with her to three of the most impressive and exciting concerts in my life, the xx at Terminal 5 in first row (summer 2012), of monsters and men at Terminal 5 in second row (fall 2012) and purity ring at Webster Hall in third row (winter 2013). concerts are interesting because they include various types of people of all ages and personalities. at the xx concert, kat and i stood in front of this one girl that complained about everything; being in close vicinities with other people, waiting for the performance, people she thought were annoying. aso she openly and loudly stated that she was ‘so glad she didn’t have to pay for the concert’. and at the of monsters and men concert, there were so many extremely excited people of all ages (even some <10 kids!), but the majority was mostly teenagers of high school variety. i would say that of monsters and men is the most well known and performance advertised band out of the above three maybe due to their single of ‘little talks’ on itunes. but that first statement is debatable, there is definitely a large appreciation crowd for each of these bands :) personally, i have known of monsters and men the longest and the best but that is only because they are from Iceland (!!!) and most of their songs and nonmusical activities portray Icelandic epithets. one of their opening acts was sóley, who is also from Iceland! her accent was purely adorable and she was so sweet. but everyone in the audience got way antsy and started talking during her songs, which made it hard to listen and appreciate the performance. it was a shame, because i really love her songs and wish i could have heard it clearer, especially since kat and i were in the second row. there was so much energy during of monsters and men’s performance; everyone sang along and the bandmembers led, entertained and encouraged us to rejoice in their melodies. lastly, purity ring was also extremely impressive especially in their instrumental set up; they created a beautiful light show that synced with their music. i actually have videos of these performances, i will definitely put them up when i get the chance! the group’s ability to create a musical lighted soundscape was not only ethereal but also admirable and inspirational. if any of these bands are performing soon nearby, please go see them! all of them cover combinations of genre so there is no excuse ;) there won’t be any regrets, i promise!

Muir Woods is quite indescribable. this national park was...

Muir Woods is quite indescribable. this national park was featured in the most current planet of the apes film with james franco and freida pinto (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1318514/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4), which i saw after i went to San Francisco in early summer of 2011. although the film showed beautiful scenes of the park and city, it did not capture underlying essence of Muir Woods as a whole. upon entering the park, my great aunt and uncle drove me and my mother along a path with constant winding ridges with unbelievable views. unfortunately, i did not consider at least taping the drive which is a shame because all of my pictures did not come out to par. but there are still many remarkable landscapes within this exceptional park, a place i still consider as one of the most extraordinarily magical places in the States despite the fact that i have not visited a large portion of North America. for one, Muir Woods holds a large collection of redwood trees that resemble tall, overbearing giants reaching out towards passerby. each giant parents collections of elves that travel aross mossy rocks placed significantly along Redwood Creek seen in the first image. these elves live within small huts located inside redwood tree barks and communicate in spaces underground. Muir Woods hides its magic from viewers but the national park’s powers are clearly visible in its stunning landscape. my great aunt and uncle could not understand what was so mystifying about each particular tree as i ran back and forth along the pathways and snapped multiple pictures of each tree. “they are all the same!” they exclaimed. i agreed to disagree; seeing how the trees transform and evolve develops different personalities for each one. i admire the lumpier bumps in the fifth image and upturned roots intermixing with ferns and other types of plants in the second image. according to Muir Park’s website thorugh the national park service, (http://www.nps.gov/muwo/), the trees range from 800 years old to 1200 years old. the forms these trees have taken over the years have caused them to split into halves (image six), grow variious mosses (image seven) and fallen onto the forest floor, which Muir Woods keep in order to provide nutrients for wildlife and well as absorbing rainwater. even if the trees are no longer standing, they still play significant roles in the landscape and for the park’s habitats. imagery of life and mysticalities are everywhere and although these pictures capture a lot (even a ginormous banana slug in image eight!), visiting this park is so much more worth the shock factor. and it is only seven dollars upon admission ;) not bad for an extremely beautiful national park.

travel schedule (and weather musings)

my mother and i have devised a plan for this summer; we have decided to scrap the Hawaii idea (someday it will happen! and instead travel to Salt Lake City, Utah! i have heard excellent conversation about landscapes from this city and my roommate just entered an urban design competition for two city blocks in this city, which looked fascinating :) my mother has also chosen to stop by South Dakota and Wyoming to see two national parks: Grand Teton [Jackson, Wyoming] and Yellowstone [stretches from Wyoming into Montana and Idaho]. the landscapes there are incredible and i cannot wait to explore these magnificent spaces and compare to Iceland’s own. then, we will head into Los Angelos, California to see the Getty Museum and any place else interesting! if any of you readers know of something astounding in Los Angelos that is art related, please let me know! my mom and i are definitely open to anything haha. we are both truly excited and ready for the brisk frosts of 30-40 degree weather. Syracuse is currently heating up and everyone on my street is out and about, partying before finals lay it down. needless to say, although i flip back and forth between hot and cold temps, i love this all around 30-40 degree weather forever plansheet. which makes me wonder - how much does temperature and weather affect an appreciation of a space? how much does that gear a desire to live in a certain space? there are only so many options, but each one can either increase or decrease complaints/appreciation about a particular area. i used to love Syracuse for the snow in freshman year and then got sick of it by sophomore year. at least there is no room for second guessing, let’s see what happens when i embark on my travels for this summer ;D

here are some nice details of the Victoria and Albert Museum in...

A’ (as seen in the first image). we both heard a lot of interesting information about the Victoria and Albert but our visit to the large scale area was astounding. although mike and i have been to the Metropolitan Museum in Manhattan numerous times, this Museum had exquisite design and architecture that could not really be compared to the Metropolitan. especially the glass staircase in the third image, large brick walls (image four) and beautiful marble carved domes and label pieces (images eight and nine); some of these cannot be found in the Met! unless they are actually there and i have just overlooked it because i have been to the Met so often. mike and i were not in the V & A for very long but the entire place looked extravagant and is truly worth a look when visiting London!

V & the second of the three is a small art installation of pooh bear living in a tree hole, and the third is a college trait in which someone can speak into a groove in the arch and another person facing the other side can hear the sentence. the fifth picture is a small stairwell listing the first thirteen states inside the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts museum near Faneuil Hall Marketplace. the sixth picture is of Copley Square and its intricately designed fountain plaza. the seventh and eighth image is of Boston Public Library upon Copley Square and the interior plaza of the Library. all of these images create a community bonded by being together, not through race, gender, religious belief, etc. there could be some limits to this, since Harvard University is a college after all. but anyone can walk in as they wish and become part of the learning community. and although Chinatown indicates something of an asian american community, there is no need to enclose that grouping. people can join together in Chinatown for their love of interesting foods and stunning arches. hopefully, everyone else can start to understand what communities really are and choose to keep an open mind about all types of bonds they encounter and create. lots of love to Boston and here is to ‘prayers for society’.

small update!

sorry for this spew of random posts lately. i’ve been trying to find a way to fit in a small update post but the semester’s almost over and it has been difficult to pull everything together thoroughly for the next few months. besides my internship in Reykjavík, Iceland (still super excited about that; leaving in May and absolutely cannot wait!), my mother and i are planning on going to Hawaii for a week right before I leave for Iceland. it will be an interesting trip; definitely looking forward to next experiences there! especially since after writing about the cruise ship vacation i took last summer for my birthday (http://fortheloveofsaudfe.tumblr.com/post/44522766200/wow-thank-you-so-much-for-reading-and-all-these), i have once again gained nostalgia for escape from familiar places like Central New York and am yearning for someplace vibrantly different. i truly miss the carefree life of warm sunny air on a beach…although i have never been to Hawaii before, i look forward to gaining more delightful memories from that new landscape as well. as for Reykjavík, i hope to turn this travel concept blog into more of a travel diary and comment on my life while still discussing certain subjects on this beautiful varied landscape. it would be nice to have some type of diversity on the page that does not include severe interpretation on each aspect of the city as well haha. on another note, this blog’s first year anniversary should be around this time - unfortunately i made a mistake seven months ago (late august) and accidentally edited the first post on my phone, thus causing the post to actually reblog to the front of my posts without staying in its original place before. so there was no double, nothing - the only benefit was that i kept all my notes on each post, but i had to reblog everything else so all the posts were in order up till the next time i blogged. that is why there is at least two whole pages of posts from the same month, when in fact those posts carried throughout four whole months in advance. so the new yearly anniversary will now be late august/mid september - when i strike one year ago on the first blog post. lastly, i have noticed some new followers that were not mentioned on the dashboard so i’m guessing some usernames were changed? in any case, i would still like to thank followers carolinefroe and canzon for still following! grazie on sitting tight, three more weeks (!!) before we embark on the latest journeys :)

for a city with extravagant topography (as mentioned in previous...

for a city with extravagant topography (as mentioned in previous post http://fortheloveofsaudfe.tumblr.com/post/28007249664/probably-one-of-the-biggest-reasons-why-i-love-san), it is interesting that San Francisco would have such a large bicycling culture. although these pictures were taken for originality of bicycle resting placement (like in the second photo which was taken in Fort Point National Historic Site by Golden Gate Bridge), the fact that bicycling is such a huge part of the city’s cuture raises a lot of questions. however, the topography does develop a large scale playground filled with intensified danger at every corner so maybe the extreme bicycling community is not as deterred but everyone else in the way most likely is. another interesting factor is that the top photo was taken at the San Francisco Botanical Garden near the Japanese Gardens; a space for many bicycles would infer that there is a lot of traffic passing by all the time. botanical gardens are seen as something similar to outdoor museums with usually no traffic at all whatsoever. however, the only other botanical gardens that i have been to are Brooklyn Botanical Garden and Bronx Botanical Garden with much less space than the San Francisco Botanical Garden - which of course is also in a less strictly urban environment with more room altogether. the San Francisco Garden is laid out in a way in which families can maneuver the whole space with a bicycle or a golf cart. the entrance to this Japanese Garden is actualy facing the space of a street, thus allowing more people to pass through from the main roads to the bicycle rack. this entire change of bicycle and vehicular use in a different city really threw me off since i was so used to walking around everywhere no matter how long the distance. but maybe in a city like San Francisco, the bicycling culture stands strong between fiery pedestrian use and all types of other vehicle use. despite how different this culture is for me personally from such an urban environment, it is far better than any other type of vehicle use and of course invigorates excellent exercise for human health. even in the last photo, there is a space to chain bikes onto in metro transportation thus elaborating how deeply ingrated a bicycling culture can become - if other means of transporation are taking other steps to make room for it on its infrastructure. there are also many buses (as personally seen in Syracuse and probably Boston) that have “shelves” for bicycles on the front grille as well. it is definitely nice to see San Francisco taking that step in recreating a powerful bicycling culture; hopefully we can see this escalade to many other growing cities with large car vehicle cultures.

let’s talk about European trash cans! or rubbish bins,...

let’s talk about European trash cans! or rubbish bins, should i call them haha i’d have to say, London and Paris have the most exquisite and diverse collection of rubbish bins i have ever seen. the first three images are in London and the other four are from Paris. discovering these new ways to locate and create a rubbish bin really emphasize not only the importance of throwing away garbage in one spot instead of every which way but how much people discard and use rubbish (heheh) each day. there is literally a new landscape formed through consumerism and the continuous directions each item will eventually go in the environment and back into community. ah reducing, reusing and recycling… how far we have traveled from this simple concept to the hardy environmentalist society we are today. in Paris, there were not as many rubbish/recyclable receptacles separation, although it appears that many seem to be working towards that goal in the fifth picture of two different bags. that image was taken on one of the many bridges along Seine River, somewhere near the fancy Bouquinistes booksellers ‘on the right bank from the Pont Marie to the Quai du Louvre’ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouquinistes). in London, i unfortunately cannot remember if there were a lot of rubbish /recyclable receptacles but i do remember three separate bins for plastic/glass bottles, newspapers/magazines and regular rubbish next to the ‘dog waste only’ bin located in Kensington Gardens of image two. this dog waste bin was much smaller than the regular sized rubbish bin in image three (also from Kensington Gardens) and was placed on top of a stick. the difference in placing dog waste versus regular rubbish indicates that users of Kensington Garden must have had a history with misplacing dog waste in numerous locations before the apparent parks department made a stand to emphasize where to exactly put dog waste so no one would struggle with the choice anymore; sort of like how people would not know where to place recycleables. however, another situation could be that Kensington Gardens is an extremely popular dog park and the abundance of dog waste with regular rubbish interfered with park hours and lack of constant regular rubbish each day. which totally makes sense and the whole concept is actually very legitimate. New York City would probably never have that separation since many park visitors throw out regular trash all the time along with dog waste.

but i digress! the rubbish bin in image one is extremely fascinating on a number of levels too; especially the fact that is placed within a bench on the side of a road. regardless, this picture was taken near a bus stop (Holborn Street) which already had seats but this extra bench with a rubbish receptacle represents a space that some people may not want to sit near because it is dirrrty…or is it? people have different hygiene levels and there are not as many homeless residents in London due the city’s excellent help support but personally, i would not want to sit less than two feet away from that rubbish bin area. i didn’t check to see if it smelled or anything either, but there are some visible stains on the aluminum metals part! as for the free windblown rubbish bags in Paris, it is clear that these rims can hold any size bags without too much floating damage (image six is right around corner of Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris block) London and Paris both have had a battle with hygiene and rubbish historically but their ways of dealing with such has developed into extremely impressive results. however, Paris’ rubbish bins seem to raise some suggestive problems including weather upturning the bag and all of the rubbish coming out (although that has happened numerous times in New York City with enclosed trash bins, so maybe that is a problem that cannot really be solved well) and the bag breaking onto the ground due to weight (again, i am not familiar with how often these bags are checked and deposited away, although i did see one woman in Paris’ Jardin des Tuileries with one pully rubbish bin from image four. she may have been homeless…although the pully rubbish bin could how deposits are evacuated!). but these designs are certainly intriguing and newly innovated in my eyes. i enjoyed watching the garbage sway back and forth in the landscape, which is something that will not usually be said haha. also, last point; the decor with the swirly metal exterior (image seven, right on the bank of Seine River near the Eiffel Tower) is quite unique especially since it encloses the bag thus limiting amount of rubbish placed inside. but this decoration plus freely swinging bags add to a type of abnormal natural beauty that one would not usually give to trash in general. Europe has truly found a way to display (and reuse) garbage in a beautifully incredible way…maybe America should take a look and try to recreate some of its spaces for the human eye to find more appealing ;)

it is difficult to hold back on promises when i said i...

it is difficult to hold back on promises when i said i wouldn’t write about New York anymore but i also promised a post on this particular studio adventure six months ago (http://fortheloveofsaudfe.tumblr.com/post/31979080752/victorianpurls-we-trekked-through-woods-next). if anyone has taken the South Campus/Connective Corridor/Winding Ridge bus and has passed by Manley Field House, two water towers are visible in the distance. one water tower even has ‘i <3 u carol’ written in large letters; a painter created it for his wife’s birthday (http://www.syracuse.com/kirst/index.ssf/2012/02/post_250.html). but this space on which the towers sit is called Morningside Hill and has many incredible views of Syracuse. however, the smaller transect paths that my studio walked along have just as much significance in student culture of this city. the transect that my studio partner and i walked along on with another group led straight down Morningside Hill into the art studio playground of metal/woodworking sculpture majors from classrooms of Comstock Art Facility next to Manley Field House. the images displayed above consist of how Comstock students have used said space to recreate a new environment for straggling travelers (such as my studio) as well as for their own artistic pieces. each of them blended into the environment fairly well and when one was recognized as something not of the landscape, we were surprised. it is interesting how different variety materials developed overtime in each weathered setting including rainfall, snow, etc. observing these materials and objects overtime in how they interact with natural settings would be a fascinating take on change and new spaces. viewing this space also helped me to understand Syracuse’s art community a little bit better and led me to appreciate the city with all of its secrets a whole lot more. here is to more secrets in Syracuse for the future!

james o’donnell, françois baillairgé: Basilique Notre-Dame...

in this second half, the video picks up from where the first video ends; passing along through roads between site and living area. but the majority of these clips include our one half day adventure in the French Quarter with friendly magicians, beautiful fountains and buildings, entertaining music. we walked along the Mississippi River and watched the Natchez steamboat play some cute tooting sounds, but the best ending to the day was eating at Cafe du Monde which i mentioned in an earlier post (http://fortheloveofsaudfe.tumblr.com/post/23020917644/apologies-for-the-blurry-pictures-but-this-is-my) the rest of the posts were other shenanigans within the house and a look at the womens’ sleeping quarters inside the church we stayed at. unfortunately, a member of my van-mily (jon) left his wallet or phone inside Cafe du Monde or some other place in the French Quarter so we went to go find it. that adventure is seen in the last few minutes of this clip. in terms of comparing music moods in driving videos (http://fortheloveofsaudfe.tumblr.com/post/45462578662/just-got-back-from-montreal-and-the-travel-back), what do you think of the instrumental influence of black eyed peas and jon semi “runnin’ runnin”? hahahah hope you enjoyed!

throwback tuesday: New Orleans video from spring 2011!

found this in my video collection a few days ago; apologies for all of these short travel posts, but i hope all of you will enjoy this part one clip out of two from two spring breaks ago :) the first couple of clips is in a parking lot near Wytheville, Virginia; the second setting is in New Orleans, in the backyard of a house where the men slept. this was our first stop in New Orleans and we were all pretty excited to get out of the vehicle and explore :D the third setting with the dog is related to my previous post about the strays in New Orleans after hurricane katrina (http://fortheloveofsaudfe.tumblr.com/post/23017724025/here-is-one-of-my-favorite-pictures-that-i-took-in) and was filmed on the site of our client walter’s sister’s house. the next scene is actually inside walter’s sister’s house, just to show what my van-mily and i were working on. there is a mixture of interior and exterior landscapes and connections within these scenes. the next ultimate change of scenery shows roadway paths between the church where the women stayed and our site at walter’s sister’s house. please excuse my finger in these films! i probably didn’t notice that my hands prevented direct clear views from camera lens. hope you enjoy! part two will be posted sometime next week.

here is a video of some musical jazz performance in Maison du...

here is a video of some musical jazz performance in Maison du Jazz/House of Jazz (http://houseofjazz.ca) of Montréal, Québec with some family discussion in the background! :D apologies for the side view of iphone camera! hopefully the music is heard clearly through the clip.

One moment of the trip to Montréal that stayed closely aligned to Paris was the crazy price range of multiple venues. During our first night in the city, mike’s family and i went to a super fancy restaurant recommended by the hotel called La Maison du Jazz or House of Jazz (http://houseofjazz.ca). for example, the restaurant had a rule of $10 Canadian dollars for just entering the space to ensure some form of payment towards the restaurant and there was a mandatory coatcheck of $2 Canadian dollars. to make up for these insanely weird fees, the restaurant held a jazz night event with various performers. in Paris (trip of spring 2012), however, these fees were everywhere; even to use the bathroom (!!!) as seen in the fifth image at the underground shopping mall, Carrousel du Louvre (http://www.carrouseldulouvre.com/W/do/centre/accueil). even the one luncheon restaurant my sister kat, mike and i went to called Les Deux Magots (http://www.lesdeuxmagots.fr/) had 14.00 € macarons, which were extremely delicious and a little larger than usual but still wow 14.00 €! :o maybe it is the length of closeness to American borders that makes Montréal’s situation a little more nicer to live with financially. all in all, the experience at Maison du Jazz helped develop understanding the trip on many more levels. even the smaller mistakes of the restaurant helped the space’s imagery feel as though there was nothing to hide; the first image above is the restaurant’s emblem on the table, which incorrectly spells the restaurant’s name as ‘Maison de Jazz’ instead of ‘du’. as for the rest of the images, they depict interior design which falls on levels of olden, rich, woodwork style that truly captures certain beautiful artistic style; thus establishing a high class with bits and pieces of appreciated accidents. i thank mike and his family very dearly for inviting me onto this trip - i learned so much from this wonderful experience and am so glad they could share their travels with me. trips with people really do make them all the worthwhile! :)

side attraction of a tiny light show displayed in XO Club...

side attraction of a tiny light show displayed in XO Club Lounge (http://www.xoclublounge.com) of Montréal, Québec
